j. lo and ben: anatomy of a rumor
My daughter just called my wife to tell her that a security company that also works at her company (which is owned by a star of at least j. lo's caliber) was told not to show up at j. lo's wedding because the wedding was off. That was at around 11:00 am pst. Let's see when and if it hits the press. stay tuned.

it's stupid statistics about the economy, stupid (no offense)
Here's a chart showing unemployment going up and down at the same time.

In honor of an intuitively improving economy, here are some random number generator sites. (I'm not sure what connection I'm trying to make there). I, by the way, would site the great deal of effort it takes to create "randomness" as evidence that there is no such thing as "randomness".

further adventures in a.d.
I took a course/seminar on screenwriting (want to write one), strokes (I've had one), marketing (seemed interesting). It seems like they take about two hours to go through the seminar and there's usually a pretty good reading list with each seminar. There is a fairly interesting group of learning institutions affiliated with the site-- AFI, columbia u, etc.

sandburg's chicago
I have a new friend who is from Chicago and an old friend who went to Chicago and says it's one of her favorite cities. My sister has always said it's her 2nd favorite city. I used to have a friend who had a young daughter - who was in first grade at the time - who I would always ask to recite, from memory the poem 'fog' and I would tell her that I felt the damp cool fog on my face when she recited it. I always liked this and also "The People, Yes" Ladies and gentleman, Carl Sandburg's Chicago Poems...............

p.j. o'rourke with onion
P.J. O'Rourke has written some funny articles for Rolling Stone over the years and Parliment of Whores is a great primer on modern governing. The Onion has an interesting interview with him this month. In New York, the Onion is free at news stands in theaters and bookstores and such. I remember reading (aloud, to my sister) a copy of it walking from the lower east side of Manhatten to Grand Central. Laughing all the way.

more good news about beer
If you sit at a desk during the day and daydream about beer, are you an alcoholic? If you write haiku about beer, do you have a drinking problem? Is it appropriate to incorporate beer into your health regimen? Has your most passionate philosophical debate been "beer versus lager" ? Do you consider an article recommending 3 or 4 beers a day a gift from heaven?

thumb tribes
This article points out the studios blaming kids with text messaging for the summer box office failures. In the past studios could buy the first weekend box office before word of mouth got out. They apperently can't beat word of thumb.
(The term "thumb tribe" is from the Utne link. )
