a look at the new york art scene New York magazine gives a list of the top ten artists to look for. There seems to be a lot of pictures of people standing around. Video artist, photographers and collagist are featured. Most are abstract in some manifestation.
i don't think i like this movie "… David Denby lambastes The Passion of the Christ as "one of the cruellest movies in the history of the cinema," a squalid spectacle that reveals that director Mel Gibson's "obsession with pain, disguised by religious feelings, has now reached a frightening apotheosis."
googlemania! Everything you've always wanted to know about Google. I used to check Yahoo! for news but have found myself more often going to Google. They run a constant search for the most hit upon news stories in their most recent manifestation. A top news story can have hundreds of articles listed from all over the net.

Their is also the great fun of stringing words together to enrich a search. The article has a list of words to add to searches to make them really interesting.

It is apparently all about logarithms. I don't know how or why?

another new old bob dylan cd This is a concert release from 1964. I think some of these performances where in Don't Look Back.

Here's the song list:

2 Spanish Harlem Incident (Live Album Version)
3 Talkin' John Birch Paranoid Blues (Live Album Version)
4 To Ramona (Live Album Version)
5 Who Killed Davey Moore? (Live Album Version)
6 Gates Of Eden (Live Album Version)
7 If You Gotta Go, Go Now (Or Else You Got To Stay All Night) (Live Album Version)
8 It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) (Live Album Version)
9 I Don't Believe You (She Acts Like We Never Have Met) (Live Album Version)
10 Mr. Tambourine Man (Live Album Version)
11 A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall (Live Album Version)
Disc 2

2 Don't Think Twice, It's All Right (Live Album Version)
3 The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll (Live Album Version)
4 Mama, You Been On My Mind (Live Album Version)
5 Silver Dagger (Live Album Version)
6 With God On Our Side (Live Album Version)
7 It Ain't Me, Babe (Live Album Version)
8 All I Really Want To Do (Live Album Version)

I'm not sure why it says "Live Album Version" after each track. Does that mean it's the album arrangement, performed live? Isn't it a little redundant to write it after each title? I can't wait!
some good points about the passion Emmett Tyrrell starts off making some good points about not seeing the Passion and sort of goes off into a John Kerry bash. I thought he might tie them together but he didn't.
smile, you're having your privacy invaded A look at the ethics of hidden camera shows.....
why is this interesting? "The elite ranks of the world's billionaires gained 64 new members in the past year, including some real surprises. In a fairy tale as fantastic as her popular Harry Potter series, former welfare mother Joanne Kathleen Rowling makes her debut on FORBES' 18th annual billionaire rankings. So do two geeks who have barely turned 30: Sergey Brin and Larry Page, who created the ultrapopular Google search engine and are expected to take their company public this year...."

There is also an interesting article on Google in Wired this month. There will probably be more on that above this article after I write it unless you've already read it because it appears at the top of the page and you read through this chronologically backwards. (I know what I mean.)
what's wrong with andy rooney? I don't even know where to begin to tell you what's wrong with this quote:

"Four days after he used his 60 Minutes platform to denigrate
Mel Gibson as a "wacko" and a "nut case," Andy Rooney showed up
Thursday on MSNBC's Imus in the Morning and further insulted
Christian believers as he belittled Gibson's movie, The Passion of
the Christ, and religious believers in general. Asked if he'd seen
the movie which portrays the crucifixion of Jesus, Rooney
derogatorily quipped: "I don't want to pay nine dollars just for a
few laughs." He declared the movie "indefensible" on an
intellectual basis and dismissed religion in general: "I think the
real legitimate question about religion is whether or not it can
be a force for good, even though it can't be defended, you know,
historically, logically, or scientifically."

source material for the passion When I saw the Sawyer interview with Mel Gibson there was no mention of the movie being based on the visions of a 18th century German nun who was purported to have displayed stigmata. Mel said it was straight from the gospel. Wasn't he odd. Her visions were recorded and are available in a download for $4.11. You can also purchase a hardcopy for $15.

the woz.org I'm looking for an article that I read along time ago. It talks about Steve Wozniak, cofounder of Apple computer, creator of the computer revolution. He has a small ad hoc summerschool in his garage. He gets kids computers and they play games and chat and send e-mails and hack their computers all under the direction of the inventor of the Mac. It's an interesting approach and it's covered a little in this article. Very interesting.

good ol' sleep More good news about sleeping. How long can we ponder the wonders of sleeping? Try to watch yourself going to sleep one night.
someone i'm taking a very interesting class from I'm taking an art history course from Jay McCafferty. He is an abstract artist from the "process art" branch. He is very interesting, thinks very highly of Picasso and Jackson Pollock. He also thinks very highly of a little asymmetrical primitive mask and justifies his interest as arbitrary. The work shown is engaging.

How nice it is to sit in a dim room and watch slides of great and/or interesting art - to jot down notes and give and listen to comments. I could do this forever.

Is there an Art History for Dummies?

a view askew of harvey weinstein "Peter Biskind's book, "Down & Dirty Pictures," published earlier this month, offers an unflattering portrayal of Miramax co-chairman Harvey Weinstein. Filmmaker Kevin Smith, who has written and directed five films for Miramax, has a different take on the company's co-chairman.

It feels like every year at this time, someone "discovers" that Harvey Weinstein is a tough businessman with a temper as large and legendary as his passion for cinema. Whoa. Stop the presses.

This also just in: The sun is bright....."
some thoughts on the movie business The Onion has some of the most interesting Q&A articles, with fascinating people.
